The HBCU College of Plant-based Lifestyle Medicine is an educational organization whose mission is to transform health outcomes in communities of color and on HBCU campuses by educating and empowering HBCU medical professional alumni, professors, health science students and staff at HBCUs along with healthcare professions who serve marginalized communities with the medical evidence and skill to prescribe “Plant Food As Medicine” using THE TEN LAWS of Plant-Based Lifestyle Medicine intervention method of treating and preventing chronic disease. Our mission is to create Plant-Based Lifestyle Medicine certification and minor degree programs on Historically Black Colleges and Universities with health science and agriculture programs to develop a pipeline of future healthcare professionals and plant food scientist and growers to develop who can start careers in Plant-Based Lifestyle Medicine and launch medical clinics that and food innovation businesses on HBCU campuses and in the communities they serve.
The World Health Organization announced that they expect another Pandemic sometime in 2024/2025 and to prevent the worse outcomes for those in marginalized communities who suffer disproportionately from chronic disease. In a few limited studies on HBCU students, it was revealed that HBCU students also suffer from disproportionate rates of diabetes (see study 1) and (study 2) and a 2020 report indicated that obesity was higher on HBUC campuses. Another resent study revealed that African-American student athletes also suffered from higher rates of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).
The HBCU-CPLM seeks to tackle chronic disease on HBUC campuses through powerful student centered education and career development programs.
To jump start our educational immersive programing, we are hosting “Meet The Plant Based Coach” featuring J.B. Blair, Assistant Coach for the NBA Washington Wizards who will share his journey Plant-Based Lifestyle journey as an athlete with students, faculty and staff to encourage student interest in studying the practice of plant-based lifestyle medicine and food innovation.
The Meet The Plant Based Coach will also feature world renowned Plant-Based Physician, Dr. Milton Mills and several of our HBCU-CPLM plant-based physicians who will attend virtually to dispel some of the myths about Plant-Based diets and optimal health. In addition we will provide a preview of the new docu series HEART & SOUL OF A CHAMPION by Plant-Based Physician Dr. Baxter Montgomery.
